The blazoning of the emblem of the Brazilian Defense Force is:

 

Arms: Azure, five five-pointes stars representing the Southern Cross, and a bordure charged with 14 four-pointed stars Argent.

Crest: A sword per pale charged with a four-pointed star Or, between two lances ensigned Azure, a five-pointed star Argent.

Garland: Branches of Laurel, Or.

Motto: DEFESABR twice, in golden lettering on a blue ribon.

Compartment: A square Vert, charged with a disc Azure, a corona Or and Argent surrounded by 24 five-points stars Argent in orle.

The elements mean:

 

·                 The shield shows the emblem of the Southern Hemisphere and the eleven stars are for the eleven nations of South America.

·                 The sword symbolizes the vigilance of the permanent defence forces. The golden star reperesents Brazil and its responsabilities

·                 The two lances are for the east and west. On every lance are three points symbolizing Justice, Wisdom and Force.

·                 The crown of laurel is a symbol of nobility

·                 The green square is in the color of the Brazilian flag

·                 The corona symbolizes the information and enlightenment of the innovative mind. The silver and golden rays superposed symbolize the differerent points of view and diversity of opinion and symbolize the cooperation of every member of the Armed forces and its leaders.

·                 The blue disc symbolizes the earth and the sky above and the 24 stars the twenty four hours of vigilance.

 

Supreme Command

 

By Order  nº 377 of the Minstry of Defense of 3 March 2011 the arms, banner and ensign  of the Staff of the Supreme Command of the United Armed Forces (EMCFA) was created. Even when a represntation of these emblem was not a part of the order, they are officially used.

Army

 

 

The emblem of the Brasilian army was adopted by Order of the Commander of the Army  nº 885, of 4 November 2008.

 

It shows the cap-badge of the army consisting of a blue oval charged with the stars of the Southern Cross, surrounded by a double bordure of the Brazilian colours Yellow and Green, and supported by a sword per pale and a halo of 21 points.

 

The Arms

 

The coat of arms of the Brasilian Army was announced in 1987 and adopted by Presidential Decree nº 1.531, of 22 June 1995.

 

The arms are:

Arms: Per pale, Guels and Azure, a griffin Or ungules Sable keeping a compass-card Argent.

Helmet: A helmet to the dexter, lambrequined Gules and Azure.

Motto: EXÉRCITO BRASILEIRO 1648 in golden lettering on a green escroll

 

The decree reads:

 

Decreto N° 1.531, de 22 de Junho de 1995

 

Altera o Decreto N° 94.336, de 15 de maio de 1987, que cria o Brasão de Armas e Estandarte do Exército.

 

O Presidente da República, no uso da atribução que lhe confere o art. 84, inciso IV, da Constitução, decreta:

 

Art. 1° Fica alterado o inciso I do art. 1° do Decreto N° 94.336, de 15 de maio de 1987, que passa a ter a seguinte redação:

*I - Brasão de Armas - Escudo clásico portugués partido de vermelho e azul, tendo em brocante um grifo de ouro, animado, lampassado e armado de preto, segurando nas garras uma estrela de oito pontas de prata, simbolizando: a figura mitológica do grifo, a vigiláncia e a guarda na defesa da Pátria e da lei, e a estrela de oito pontas, a necessidade de se agir em todos os pontos cardeais, em busca da União; o elmo, simbolizando o militar, de prata e forrado de púrpura, a três quartos para destra com correia azul, paquife e virol de azul e vermelho. Tem por insignia, num listel de verde, ondulado, sotoposto ao escudo, em letras de ouro: Exército Brasileiro - 1648.”

 

Art. 2° Este Decreto entra em vigor na data de sua publicação.

The Standard

 

The standard of the Brasilian Army was announced by Ministerial Order 346 of 2 June 1997, about the Standard and Coat of Arms. [1]

It was adopted by Portaria nº 249, de 28 de maio de 2001 and consists of a white cloth with golden fringes charged in the middle with the coat of arms.

 

The red ribbons are inscribed with: GUARARAPES, INDEPENDÊNCIA, CISPLATINA, PRATA, TRÍPLICE ALIANÇA, ITÁLIA, GAZA, SÃO DOMINGOS, MOÇAMBIQUE  and  ANGOLA.

 

Article 28 of the “General Instructions for the Application of the Regulation on Salutes, Honors, Signs of Respect, and Military Ceremonial of the Armed Forces, n° 10-60” of 8 August 2000  stipulates that “The use of the standard of the Army is regulated by the Norms for Use of the Standard and Coat of Arms of the Army.”

 

Navy

 

 

Brazilian Admiralty Flag (1915)

In 1999 the Admiralty was abolished and the navy came to be subordinated to the Commander of the Navy.

His flag shows the central medallion and annulet of the national arms and an anchor per bend on the blue cloth with the cross of stars.

Formally, the Ministry of Aeronautics was founded on January 20, 1941 and so its military branch called "National Air Forces", changed to "Brazilian Air Force" (Força Aérea Brasileira - FAB) on May, 22. The Army ("Aviação Militar") and Navy ("Aviação Naval") air branches were extinguished and all personnel, aircraft, installations and other related equipment were transferred to FAB

Arms of the Federal Police after 1989

 

The arms of the Federal Police were adopted by presidential decree No 98.380, of 9 November 1989.

Its form and blasoning were laid down in the annexes I and II of this decree.

Descrição Heráldica

 

Escudo estilizado, lembrando o escudo polonês, com o campo em jalne (ouro) - esmalte que simboliza fé, fortaleza, constância, firmeza, poder e a autoridade, propósitos maiores dos integrantes do Departamento de Polícia Federal. Em Chefe aparece um listel em goles (vermelho), simbolizando este esmalte a ousadia, coragem, esforço e segurança, onde se insere a palavra POLÍCIA em prata (branco) e em Contrachefe outro listel, também, em goles (vermelho), onde se insere a palavra FEDERAL em prata (branco).

No coração destacam-se as Armas Nacionais que se descrevem segundo a Lei N. 5.700 - de 1o de setembro de 1971, [....]
